Discover Adventure at Scouting America’s South Georgia Council Camps

The South Georgia Council of Scouting America is proud to offer two remarkable camping experiences that help shape the next generation of leaders: Camp Osborn and Camp Patten. Each camp offers unique opportunities for adventure, skill-building, and personal growth in the great outdoors.

Camp Osborn, located near Sylvester, Georgia, has been a cornerstone of Scouting in the region for decades. Known for its traditional camping program, Camp Osborn provides Scouts with a well-rounded experience that includes merit badge instruction, aquatic activities, shooting sports, and outdoor skills. One of the camp’s standout features is its expansive horseback riding trail system, giving Scouts a unique opportunity to experience the outdoors from the saddle while building confidence and learning horsemanship skills.

Its scenic setting and well-developed facilities create an ideal environment for youth to learn teamwork, build confidence, and develop leadership skills while having fun. Campfires, fellowship, and long-standing traditions make Camp Osborn a place where memories last a lifetime.

Camp Patten, nestled near Lakeland, Georgia, offers a more rugged, back-to-basics outdoor experience. With its expansive natural landscape, Camp Patten is perfect for high-adventure activities, weekend camping, and specialized programs. Units can take advantage of hiking trails, primitive camping areas, and opportunities to practice advanced outdoor skills. The camp’s quieter, more rustic atmosphere allows Scouts to connect deeply with nature while strengthening their independence and resilience.

Together, these two camps embody the spirit of Scouting America—building character, citizenship, and fitness through outdoor adventure. Whether attending a full summer camp session at Camp Osborn or embarking on a unit outing at Camp Patten, Scouts in South Georgia are fortunate to have access to these outstanding outdoor resources.

Both Camp Osborn and Camp Patten feature outstanding shooting sports facilities, including archery ranges, .22 rifle ranges, and 5-stand shotgun ranges, providing exciting opportunities for Scouts of all ages to build skills and confidence.

Waterfront Fun

With access to the shores of Lake Keenan and Lake Patten, our camps offer the perfect place for Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA to make a splash and cool off in the summer heat! All swim activities are supervised by trained aquatics staff under the guidance of a certified Aquatics Director, ensuring every Scout can enjoy the water safely while making unforgettable summer memories.

Hikes into Nature

Camp Patten offers access to scenic hiking trails that connect Scouts to the natural beauty of the surrounding wilderness and the Alapaha River, while Camp Osborn features a beautiful natural blue spring that flows into Mercer Mill Creek. Together, these unique environments give Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA incredible opportunities to explore, discover, and build a deeper appreciation for the outdoors.

Scoutcraft & Handicraft Fun

From knot-tying to whittling, Scoutcraft encompasses the essential skills Scouts learn throughout their Scouting adventure. At camp, both Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA develop confidence as they learn to safely use knives, axes, and other tools. Handicraft programs give Scouts the opportunity to create lasting keepsakes through basketry, woodworking, and leatherworking—memories they can take home and treasure long after camp ends.
